Book Review; The Social Media Business Equation

Stands out so no missing it on the shelf!

Thanks to the University of Canterbury for allowing the ad-hoc use of this book.

To make you understand how important I figured it was to read this book, I stopped halfway through a pretty good Cold War novel…

Author Eve Mayer Orsburn wrote this short and easy to read book on how businesses should and can tap into what could be considered the largest ‘community’ of consumers in existence…for no real capital (if not none) outlay. Now if that doesn’t make you sit up and notice and make you reconsider your marketing strategy, then you have no right being in business.

Considered the domain for the younger generation and gossip-mongerers may be not that far from the truth, however it is underutilised and underestimated by many in a personal and professional sense. I myself use different forms of SM in both a personal and business capacity, and after reading this book was somewhat chuffed that I had been applying most of what Eve touches on in getting success out of SM, however there were four or five tips she gave that not only made obvious sense, but had me immediately accessing and changing both my blogs, my Facebook business page, my LinkedIn account, and cutting (yes, cutting) somewhere in the region of 90% of those who follow my three business Twitter accounts. And I feel bloody great about it all and feel more in control of what can be a monster to manage if not done right. Read more…

All In a Day’s Work…

Actual shot taken of me that day...

There I was, a used car salesman…at the time there was probably not many professions considered more untrustworthy at the time, but I was good, and my customers did love me and I made money…I had been about a year out of the Navy and still went out with a lot of my old sea-faring mates when the opportunity rose, and this time was no different. I can’t be sure, but I think it was HMNZS Canterbury (F421) that came back into Auckland from a long deployment overseas, and me and my (then) fiancée had some friends on board and went out with them to drink their return. For those who know/remember the scene in the early ’90s, we spent the whole night at The Waterfront down near the viaduct basin. And when I say whole night, I mean it…at one point I was ordering coffees instead of drinks and was falling asleep on the table and when D woke me up we decided that she was in a better state than I and she drove us home. It wasn’t that I was legless, I was so feckin’ tired! I was drunk, I’ll admit to that, but it was the fatigue that got me. Read more…

In the Navy – my first…well how do I say this?

Irony; cannot use plastic.

Now that I’ve got your attention, it’s not quite as it sounds…well, sort of.

For those who follow my writings my last naval entry surrounded the pissing incident by my mate at a formal dinner. Well remember how I mentioned he then he ended up in a disciplinary court and lost leave on our pending trip to Asia…right, this is that trip. It was that afternoon after this that we were bundled onto a plane bound for Hong Kong to join up with HMNZ Ships Wellington (F69) and (for the girls) Endeavour (A11) – but first a night’s stopover in Singapore. Work, Work, Work…the other Subaru

Legacy,,,fitting name considering my history!

For those who read my thrilling story about the stolen WRX and the ‘sting’ to recover it, you’ll be surprised to know that another incident with another Subaru took place about the same time.

Within a few days of the WRX being recovered (although not repaired for the yard by then) I had a young fellow come in and test drive a Legacy RS manual…at the time these were very sort-after cars, more than I obviously realised. Read more…

What the Wuc are you on, man?!?

There’s a new girl in my life. I don’t know her name other than her alias Wuc. Don’t know where she lives except it is across the ‘deetch’. Don’t know what she does for a job but I am certain it is in an office. I don’t know her age, but will assume (the mutha of all fuck ups) she is old enough as she has her own site. Hell, I don’t even know for sure if she is a she! Yep, while this sounds like most of the girls I check out online this one is different…she makes me laugh. Read more…
