OK, here’s one to debate…porn & education…

…let’s face it, it isn’t really porn is it? It’s like saying now that the original Karate Kid is violent…

I have been semi-following this story for some time, in fact since it happened as Steve Crow is a friend of mine (if he denies it, he’s lying!) and while I have only met Rachel a few times I am in no doubt that she is a lovely, and ethical young woman – and if she does something, why not? I respect this as this is my own mind-set, heck what the bleeding hearts say, what is the point of a democracy when we cannot be allowed freedom of expression? It is not like any law has been broken…

Personally, while I see the argument against what she has done, if she is to be persecuted for what she has done, we may as well move to China and become a number and have our persona taken from us and replaced by a number. What happened to David Lange when he admitted his adultery? Nothing, and that to me is a worse crime that Rachel’s…and Rodney Hide in his lying, cover ups and spending of our money? Nothing. Rachel has not downloaded illegal child porn (like some of our teachers are), not having an illicit affair with a pupil (like some of our teachers are), not dealing and couriering drugs (like some of our teachers are)…she showed her body, by choice, so that those of us sharing the same democratic rights as she could admire her body (and no doubt more) as we are legally entitled to…if kids are getting this same photo shoot, don’t blame her, don’t blame Penthouse, blame the individual (or parent) who purchased it and had it in such a position that the child was able to access it…

Remember, this is an open forum and I welcome debate and feedback, however I will not tolerate people-bashing, aspersions on people or their choices, nor opinions with no thought process (i.e. just saying something for the sake of saying something) – there is no right or wrong answers, but there is still a correct and incorrect way to extend them. Enjoy…

Family First welcomes porn model’s deregisteration

Family First says a combined role of porn star and primary school teacher doesn’t fit for most families and welcomes the deregisteration of a former Auckland teacher who posed nude in a men’s magazine.

Rachel Whitwell was investigated by the New Zealand Teachers Council (NZTC) after a member of the public complained her actions brought the profession into disrepute.

Ms Whitwell was featured in New Zealand and Australian editions of Penthouse in “various states of undress, including totally naked”.

One picture showed her draped over an old fashioned school desk.

The magazine quoted Ms Whitwell as saying: “I am submissive in the bedroom because during the day I have to be in control in the classroom”.

In submissions to NZTC’s complaints assessment committee, Ms Whitwell said Penthouse was a lawful publication and she had done nothing illegal.

She said she was not working as teacher when she posed for the photographs.

NZTC found Ms Whitwell’s actions constituted serious misconduct, reflecting badly on her fitness to be a teacher and the profession as a whole.

It ordered she be deregistered and pay costs associated with the disciplinary process.

Family First New Zealand national director Bob McCoskrie said teachers had a special status as leaders and should be respected.

“Modelling and selling naked photos to a pornographic magazine doesn’t meet that standard. Associating the photos with her profession of teaching children is also unacceptable.”

“The combined role of porn star and primary school teacher simply doesn’t fit for many families. Parents would be just as concerned if a teacher was coming to school topless or teaching that pornographic magazines are harmless.”

Ms Whitwell has said she plans to appeal.

Is this what we are headed towards???

Agreed. There is no way, that as a society we can accept anyone to teach our children who subscribes to these non-approved concepts of freedom of expression, individual responsibility, liberty and choice. *

Gee Darren, you speak quite eloquently…or did Toni write this? Speaking of, if Toni was to strip, would you have an issue over her stripping, or due to her role in education? For the record, I wouldn’t have an issue, and if she was so willing, I could pass on her details to Steve?

Mate – I am glad you can see the arguement why she was deregistered because I can’t. Perhaps if I was bothered you could explain it too me.

I think some homework on your part is required – I summons you to buy the Penthouse edition in question and study it thoroughly, more than once if need be, in the interests of ensuring that you make a informed judgement…

You know what? I don’t think I have bought a ‘paperback’ in at least 15 years! I have moved into the digital age of internet and DVD…more serious, I haven’t actually read the ‘offending’ issue.

Following on from a previous post… I agree with everything 😉 I love porn in all it’s wonderous forms…! I miss Steve’s vault and am well overdue for another visit!

As an aside… I blame Penthouse for getting me onto the menthols… Seeing ads in the early-mid eighties of ‘real men’ (Joe Jackson got it right) hiking through snow capped alpine forests in their cheqeured open neck shirts, with denim shorts and knee high woollen socks… Sporting their long blonde muskateerish moustaches… Propping their toned leg, glistening in sweat, despite it being -34 dry bulb… Stopping in the clearing, for a brief moment to take in the view, think of their recently fallen Labrador – Bruno, and have a refreshing breath of that energy boosting leaf that can only be tobacco… With an awe inspiring strap-line along the lines of “Menthol by Alpine – A taste of the Alpines”… Who wouldn’t race out and buy a pack of 10’s?

Can you still buy 10s? I blame the Navy – hey, $2 a pack of fags (and less for the male type) and 30c a can of beer (which I thought was too expensive for Waikato Draught!), one cannot help but enjoy a manly smoke and drink in the middle of the oggy in readiness for a battle…

Oggy – forgive my ignorance? Ocean?
